We are building a house!
Welcome to my very first blog post as part of my series of blog posts about our HOME BUILDING JOURNEY! Let me start this post by saying….. We Picked Lot #118! I cannot wait to turn this lot into our beautiful home.
My husband and I spent a year reviewing all builders in Omaha before we decided on the one we wanted. Most of the builders we looked at wouldn’t allow many custom requests and that wasn’t OK for us. We are spending a lot of money on our home and I would like to customize it to my liking. Luckily, the builder we decided to go with allowed for many custom requests.
Feb 2, 2019 – We picked Lot #118
On Feb 2, 2019, we signed our lot reservation documents and paid a portion of the down payment at that time. Our contract allowed us to hold the lot for 3 months, which isn’t what they typically do. Unfortunately, we had an apartment lease at the time and they wouldn’t let us break the lease early and they also wouldn’t allow us to live there month to month after the lease ended. My Mother and Step-Dad asked if we wanted to live at their house for 4-5 months after our apartment lease was up and while our house was being built. It would allow us to have a pretty nice savings once we close on our new home. We jumped at the opportunity.
Lot #118 is ours. It’s a beautiful corner lot that looks out into the beautiful Nebraska sunsets. It’s funny, I find a lot of people who have never been to Nebraska, love to judge it and say it’s just a bunch of land. I think that’s the best part. My family gets a huge piece of land for a great price. Big backyard for Jack to run around in, beautiful neighborhoods where the homes only increase in value. The nicest people in the country are from the midwest. It’s the perfect spot if you ask me.
Who is our builder?
The builder we decided to go with is Charleston Homes. Funny story, we actually found our model home through a photographer I worked with when we had Jack’s newborn photos done. We walked into her house and asked who the builder was. She told us she went through Charleston and we decided that we needed to check them out.
It didn’t take long for us to figure out which model we wanted to build. We knew that we wanted to build a 2-story house because we both work from home and we needed the space. Ultimately, we decided to build The Jackson model.
Truth is – I didn’t like the design of the Jackson model. I prefer all white, bright and airy interiors. This didn’t stop us from building through Charleston though. I was able to visualize what our house could become based on what I picked out for options/colors/brick, etc etc.
I am SO glad that we picked Lot #118. It’s beautiful (If I do say so myself). I hope you subscribe to my blog and follow along as I share this journey with you. Tell me something, are you building, looking to build or have built before? Let me know in the comments.
