- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 lime juiced
- 1/2 cup blackberries
- 1-2 leaves basil chopped
- 3 ounces bourbon whiskey
- 2 ounces blackberry Bubly sparkling water
- 1/2 cup ginger ale
- ice
Prep the drink. In a cocktail shaker combine sugar, lime juice, blackberries, and bourbon. Muddle to break up the berries, basil, and lime, and to dissolve the sugar. Add a generous amount of ice, shake to chill and combine.
Serve. Fill an old fashioned glass with ice. Add blackberry Bubly. Strain cocktail over ice, top off with ginger ale. Garnish with mint, berries, and lime if desired.
- Some blackberries are sweeter than others (especially if you're using fresh berries). You can taste your berries, and if they are less sweet than you prefer, you can add a touch more sugar or even a bit of simple syrup before shaking.
- Always muddle your drinks lightly. You don't want to pulverize your berries and leaves, or they might turn bitter.
- If you don't have a muddler, you can use the back of a spoon to muddle the berries.
- For extra-hot days, you can freeze your glasses for about an hour beforehand.
- A cocktail skewer of blackberries makes a fun garnish!
