Texas Roadhouse Butter Board with bread and cinnamon

While it would be a dream come true, Texas Roadhouse doesn’t actually have a butter board on the menu. They do, however, serve this incredible, sweet and savory cinnamon butter that tastes good slathered on just about anything. It’s perfect for special occasions and can be used on your favorite foods including your morning toast, french toast, warm rolls, fresh bread, English muffins, banana bread, cinnamon toast, or even sweet potatoes and in cinnamon rolls.

Even better, it’s easy to make at home. And you can absolutely impress your friends with this quick and simple butter board that only takes a few minutes to whip together. I recommend making a double batch, and hey- it makes a great gift!

What is a Butter Board?

A butter board is a fresh take on the popular charcuterie board trend. It consists of a platter or serving board smeared with fresh compound butter that’s usually seasoned, flavored, sprinkled, or drizzled with additions like fresh herbs, honey, spices, fruits, candy, seeds, nuts, or cheese, to name a few. The possibilities of butter board flavors and themes are endless.

Butterboards are served with accompaniments to spread the butter on. Breads and savory snacks are common, but I’ve included plenty of ideas below.

What is Texas Roadhouse butter made of?

Texas Roadhouse compound butter is made primarily by mixing softened butter with cinnamon, honey, and sugar. It’s a sweet treat that’s served alongside fresh dinner rolls at the popular American restaurant.

Ingredients

  • Unsalted Butter – It’s really critical your butter is at room temperature. You can just let it sit on the counter for an hour or so. If you need it to soften more quickly, cut it into small chunks and let it sit on the counter for 20 minutes.
  • Honey
  • Powdered sugar – In a pinch, you can replace this with granulated sugar, but it might not be as smooth in consistency.
  • Ground Cinnamon – You’ll mix some into the butter, then sprinkle a little extra on top of the butter board as a garnish.
  • Warm bread for serving – More ideas for how to serve this butter board are listed below.

How to Make Delicious Cinnamon Honey Butter

STEP ONE: Prep the butter. Once the butter is at room temperature and completely soft, spread it all over a charcuterie board or serving dish or platter.

If you want to take an extra step, you can whip the butter or purchase whipped butter. To whip the butter place any room temp store-brand butter into a large mixing bowl and use a hand mixer or stand mixer with the whisk attachment. Add the other ingredients if you’d like to whip them, scraping the sides of the bowl as you mix. Blend until air is incorporated and the butter is fluffy.

STEP TWO: Blend the honey mixture. Place the honey in a microwaveable bowl and heat for 10 seconds. It should thin out and be easy to stir. Add the powdered sugar and cinnamon to the warmed honey and use a small spoon to stir it until it’s fully combined. You can add a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of vanilla extract if desired.

STEP THREE: Mix the butter and honey. Drizzle the cinnamon honey on top of the butter. Use a spatula to gently swirl the honey drizzle and butter together.

STEP FOUR: Garnish and serve. Sprinkle more cinnamon on top, and take it to the next level by serving with warm bread.

What to Serve With Texas Roadhouse Honey Butter?

Texas Roadhouse butter is sweet and savory, so keep that in mind when you’re selecting accompaniments. Think more along the lines of breads and sweets instead of veggies. Here are some ideas:

  • Warm Bread: Classic Texas Roadhouse rolls (you can order these on their website!), crusty artisan bread, French baguettes, croissants, yeast rolls, crackers, or pretzels. You can offer a selection or just one or two.
  • Fruit: You might not think fruit and butter pair well, but I would disagree! This dip is really yummy spread on sliced apples and pears. You can even sprinkle fresh berries over top of the butter board for color and added flavor.

Other Serving Suggestions

To round out the appetizer spread, consider serving your butter board along side other foods like:

  • Cheese: Goat cheese, brie, cheddar, and blue cheese are rich and creamy, and can be spread on many of the same foods as your butter board.
  • Savory Finger Foods: Sliced deli meats, tapenade, pickles, and olives give a contrasting flavor for a more interesting appetizer spread.
  • Fruits & Vegetables: Fresh grapes, cucumber slices, and cherry tomatoes add new textures and colors.
  • Dips & Spreads: Serve hummus, pesto, or other dips with cut veggies alongside the butter for even more variety.

Serve the Butter Board for Dessert

This butter board can also be served as a beautiful dessert. Serve with butter cookies, graham crackers, sweet breads and pastries like croissants, and scones. Biscotti make a nice touch, too!

Breakfast and Brunch Options

While a butter board might not seem like a brunch treat, this sweet version is wonderful served with pancakes or waffles, fresh breads, and sliced fruit.

How to Store Leftovers From a Butter Board

You’re able to enjoy your leftovers on another day. Keep in mind, if you’ve served this butter at a party and it’s been sitting out for a long time, or if there have been a lot of people dipping into it, you might rather toss it and make a fresh compound butter on another day.

But if you want to save your butter, just scoop it into an airtight container and store it in the fridge or over with plastic wrap. When you want to enjoy it again, allow it to come to room temperature first, then spread it as desired. You should use up your Texas Roadhouse butter within 2-3 days if possible.

I wouldn’t recommend freezing this copycat butter. The butter might separate and end up watery. But if you want to try anyway, scoop it into an airtight container and freeze for up to a month. Let it thaw in the fridge before serving again. If water pools in the container, pour it carefully into the sink, then give the butter a stir.
