Ingredients

  • 16.3 ounce refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 2 1/2 cups water plus 1 tablespoon water, divided
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1 large egg
  • course salt
  • cheese sauce (optional)
  • honey mustard (optional)

How To Make

To prepare these homemade pretzel bites, start by preheating your oven to 350°F and bringing a pot of water to a rolling boil. Meanwhile, take refrigerated biscuit dough and cut it into bite-sized pieces. Using kitchen scissors or a knife, divide each biscuit into 6 pieces, pinching two ends together to form nugget shapes.

Once the water is boiling, carefully add baking soda to it. Exercise caution as the mixture will bubble up. Using a pair of tongs or a slotted spoon, gently add the biscuit nuggets into the boiling water, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Boil them for approximately 20 seconds or until they start to puff up, then use the tongs or spoon to lift them out.

Place the boiled dough pieces onto a baking sheet, and repeat the process until all the biscuit dough has been boiled. Now, it’s time to prepare the egg wash. Crack an egg into a small bowl, add 1 tablespoon of water, and whisk the mixture with a fork. Using a pastry brush or spoon, generously coat each piece of dough with the egg wash, and finish by sprinkling them with coarse salt.

Finally, bake the prepared pretzel bites in the preheated oven for around 20 minutes or until the tops develop a beautiful golden brown hue. The result will be a batch of irresistibly delicious homemade pretzel bites, boasting a perfect combination of a soft interior and a slightly crispy exterior. These treats are ideal for snacking or serving as appetizers, and their enticing aroma will undoubtedly draw everyone to the kitchen. Enjoy these delightful bites on their own or pair them with your favorite dipping sauce for an extra burst of flavor.

Recipe Tips:

  • Don’t overcrowd the water. This prevents the dough from sticking to one another while boiling.
  • Use the egg wash. It is important not to skip this step as it is key for a crunchy outside and soft inside. Have an egg allergy? Swap the egg for milk, butter or olive oil.
  • Sprinkle on seasoning. At the end of step 5 when the coarse salt sprinkled on is the prime time to customize. Add chili powder, everything bagel seasoning, garlic powder, Parmesan cheese or even cinnamon & sugar to the dough!
  • Serve as is or dip into a sauce. Cheese sauce and honey mustard are our favorite dipping sauces! Check out this delicious Velveeta Cheese Sauce.
